Universus Hostel, Gdansk
We stayed at Universus Hostel in downtown Gdansk, within a walking distance from the main sights.
We were privileged to stay near the famous Gdańsk Shakespeare Theatre - the modern, and yet traditional Theater well-known for its Shakespearean festivals and performances. This is a unique theater with an opening roof.
We went sightseeing every day visiting great places and admiring architectural details in the city.
Of course, we followed the advice of our friends ans walked along the Motlava Embankment, visited several churches and parks with fountains and monuments. We visited the monument to Jan Hevelius, a Polish astronomer, a telescope designer and the first mayor of Gdańsk.
The monument to Swentopelk II, the founder of the city, was impressive as well, but the statue looked like that of a very short man.

The monument to King Jan III was more impressive for us.
We also saw other monuments, among them unusual ones, on the way.

Hewelion of Gdansk
Finding Hewelion the Lion is a new tourist trail - The Hewelion Lion Trail - in Gdańsk. The trail is an initiative of the Gdańsk Tourist Organization. It was developed as an excellent proposition for children and their parents. As a result, fourteen 50-cm-tall figurines of the little lion Hewelion appeared in Gdańsk in characteristic points, next to important monuments and tourist attractions in 2015. There was also a competition for the name of the figurine. The name "Hewelion" was the most popular in the Internet voting. While searching for small bronze lion figurines, you can explore the city at the same time. The figurines are the work of the Gdańsk artist Tomasz Radziewicz. Each lion cub has different attributes: a paddle, football boots or a mug - all depending on where the figurine is standing. The fifteenth Hewelion relaxes after a day full of attractions on a deckchair, sipping a cool drink and admiring the wonderful panorama of Gdańsk from the 32nd floor of Olivia Star, 130 meters above the ground, on the tallest building in northern Poland.
We could not help admiring the architecture and its details such as bay windows, statues, bas-reliefs and high reliefs on the historical buildings.

We did not visit the Amber Museum, but we went to see the Amber Quarter.

Amber Quarter shackles for fun, Gdansk
There is a place where you can feel a debtor by putting on old shackles and standing there, just like in the Middle Ages, for fun.
You can feel the ordeal the people had to suffer for their hanky-panky then.
